2026 Yorkshire Eurotour F3F
26-28 June 2026
Alvaro Silgado after a run, at Levisham
Yorkshire Eurotour
With London steaming in a heat wave, the 5 hour drive to Yorkshire came as a bit of a relief - oh, and there was a competition to look forward to! It turned out to be a really fun weekend, with 23 pilots in attendance including visitors from Germany, Spain and Holland.
The competition demanded both patience and technique, with thermals and cross winds to deal with as well as the vagaries of the Levisham slope.
Day 1 (Friday)
We met at 9.30 at the Hole of Horcum car park, only to be greeted with thunder and lightening!
Fortunately the rain fairly soon gave way to sunshine. Bibs were were distributed, and after a trudge to the S bowl we were ready to start. The only problem now was the wind - there was very little of it, and it seemed to be coming from all directions. Luckly, the wind did eventual obey the forecast, settling more or less on the slope... and we were finally ready to commence the competition.
The first round was won by Peter Kowalski, followed by Dieter Perlick and Peter Gunning - rather prescient, given that they finished the competition in the same order! One more round was flown before we retired for some food and rest.
Day 2 (Saturday)
The second day saw a return to the Horcum slope in rather thermic conditions. A further ten round were flown, with Les Wood scything his way up into second place while Dieter dropped to 6th after a couple of rounds in poor air. So, after 12 rounds, Peter Kowalski was heading the leader board, with Les Wood second, and Peter Gunning third.
A splendid curry in Whitby made for a perfect end to the day.
Day 3 (Sunday)
With a SW-W wind forecast we flew the last day at Levisham. A further six rounds were flown. Dieter made up ground with a string of good scores including a win in round 16. In the end though, Peter Kowalski held on to the lead to take the win with Dieter runner up and Peter third.
The standard of flying was very high, Peter K and Dieter in particular flying with a precision which was a joy to watch.
