2025-6 Southern Winter League 3

22 February 2026

Simon Kronfeld at Whitesheet

Southern Winter League 3

I almost didn't attend this comp, as the forecast for Whitesheet Hill was pretty dodgy. Indeed, most of the drive from London was with the windscreen wipers on.

But I'm glad I did, because the rain stopped just in time for the start of the comp... and we ended up flying ten splendid rounds! It was especially sweet coming after a long period of rain which has afflicted much of the UK (the two previous Southern league events were cancelled due to poor weather).

The comp

The competition took place on the SW bowl. The entry was small, with just ten pilots turning up, others having been put off by the forecast.

Conditions were good with ~7 m/s wind and some thermal activity to spice things up. The winner was John Philips. John was truly nailing the bases with his trusty Saker and Wyvern. Mike Bleathman took second place, and I came in third with my Pike Precision 2.

A special mention for Simon Kronfeld, subject of our heading photo and returnee to F3F after a long layoff. He flew very nicely, and we look forward to him joining the party again soon.

Acknowedgements

Many thanks to Mike Bleathman and William Fourie for organising.
